Word Work Homework Tips

Word Work Homework Guidelines

Starting this week, your child should study their "Word Work" Words every night for 15 minutes.  I am sending home word sorts this year and hope you will do the "homework" listed below every night. Thank you so much!

Here is a weekly outline for the spelling homework:

Monday: (15 minutes)
Together with your child, read over the words they have copied into their planner.  Cut out the words from the sheet and have your child show you how he or she sorted the words at school. Be sure to go over each word once they are sorted and ask your child to say each word as you point to them.

Tuesday: (15 minutes)
Do the word sort again. Time yourself and your child doing the sort if you wish. Challenge yourselves to beat your own times! Have fun!

Wednesday: (15 minutes)
Read over the words again. Discuss how you would use them in a sentence. Make up sentences for each word!  These do not have to be written down.  Have fun with them.

Thursday: (10 minutes)
Do a simple review.  The "quiz" is tomorrow…you have worked hard during the week so take a break and review the words once.

Thank you for your support with this!  Together we will build successful spellers and writers!

All the best-
Mrs. Croghan
